NHS Member Meeting Minutes for Thurs. December 3rd, 2009
1. People turned in their Help-A-Teacher hour for November. 2. Miss Melissa Hall from the Boy Scouts came to speak about the following service opportunities: - Career Exploring Program in which the Boy Scouts has partnered up with other associations in DeLand and Daytona Beach such as the police department that gives students to chance to shadow professionals in a certain area. For example if someone thinks he or she wants to be a policeman they have the opportunity to follow around policemen and see what they actually do. One is allowed to shadow more than one area such as police department and fire department. There is an $11.00 fee if you would like to participate, but you get many opportunities to perform activities that can be counted toward community service. See Mrs. Nehrig for flyers that allows you to register for the program 3. Ashlee Eve, vice-president, talked about the following service opportunities: - Volunteering at the Deltona Alliance Church on Deltona Blvd. on December 5, 2009 for a Toy Box Ministry in which you can wrap gifts, or follow parents around and shop for gifts. Shifts are from 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and 12:30 – 6:30 p.m. - The Dominica – Students may bring in academic books, videos, DVDs, or school supplies all for one inside hour that will go to students in the Dominica. Please do so by December 18.
