Section 1 – Attending a meeting is equivalent to ½ hours of NHS community service (inside hour).
Section 2: 10 NHS hours and 10 outside hours are required for junior members of NHS by the last meeting of the school year.
Section 3: 10 summer hours are required between an NHS member’s Junior and Senior year and are due on the first meeting of the next year.
Section 4: All senior members of NHS need to fulfill 10 NHS and 10 outside hours by a specified date before graduation.
Section 1 – All potential members must have at least a 3.8 weighted grade point average.
Section 2 – All potential members must have achieved all 1’s in conduct on their report card.
Section 3 – All potential will go through a new member period prior to inductions. During this time, potential members must submit teacher recommendation forms and 5 hours of community service.
Section 3.5 – All possible members need 3 teacher recommendation forms, which measure at least 5 of the qualities upheld by Deland High School National Honor Society: Leadership, responsibility, attitude, preparation, respectfulness to authorities and peers, commitment, academic performance, honesty, ethics, and judgment. Members must average a score of 45/50 on the three recommendations.
Section 4 – All possible members owe $20 in membership dues upon joining the club.
Section 1 – All unexcused absences from meetings and mandatory service projects will result in a demerit. (See Article IV)
Section 2 – All excuses must be determined valid by the current NHS officers.
Section 3– All officers must attend all district meetings.
Section 1 – A demerit system will be followed, bestowing demerits for absences at meetings, mandatory service projects, and exhibition of behavior that counters the characteristics and qualities of NHS.
Section 2 – A member that receives 4 demerits will be put on probation.
Section 3 – A member that receives 6 demerits will be dismissed from NHS.
Section 4 – Upon receiving a demerit, a member can achieve merits by participating.
Section 1 – The NHS president will run all meetings and will oversee all community service projects
Section 2 – The NHS Vice President will assist the president and run meetings when the president is absent. The Vice President is also the representative of the Deland High School NHS chapter.
Section 3 – The NHS Secretary of hours will be in charge of keeping track of and recording community service hours and documents for the club. The secretary is also responsible for typing up all agendas for NHS meetings.
Section 3.5 – The NHS Secretary of attendance will be in charge of keeping track of and recording attendance and documents for the club. The secretary is also responsible for typing up all agendas for NHS meetings.
Section 4 – The NHS treasurer is in charge of keeping track of all monetary transactions in the club.
Section 5 – The NHS Activities Coordinator is in charge of coordination and organizing all events and community service activities.
Section 6 – The NHS Publicist is in charge of alerting all NHS members about upcoming meetings and service projects.
Section 7 – The NHS Sergeant at Arms is charge of getting members’ attention at meetings and restoring order. The Sergeant at Arms can give fines to members displaying such misbehavior.
Section 8 – The NHS Chaplain is in charge of giving inspirational quotes at the beginning of every NHS meeting.
Section 9 – The NHS Webmaster is in charge of handling and updating the NHS website.
